Grand Valley State claimed a 3-2 GLIAC victory (26-24, 24-26, 25-18, 21-25, 15-13) over Michigan Tech Saturday (Mar. 27) at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena and earned the weekend split. GVSU improves to 9-3 overall, while MTU falls to 8-2 heading into the last weekend of the regular season.
The two evenly-match squads played well throughout the five-set thriller. The Huskies held a 75-64 advantage in kills, but GVSU held a .225 attack percentage, while MTU hit just .158. GVSU was efficient with just 17 attack errors to MTU's. The match was decided with the domination of the Lakers' in the block game. Grand Valley State recorded 32 block assists and two block solos (18.0), while Michigan Tech tallied eight block assists and two block solos (6.0).
Abby Graham led the Laker offense with 23 kills, a .317 attack percentage, 20 digs and five blocks, while
Ali Thompson tallied 16 kills, hit .204 and chipped in 30 digs.
Jaelianna Primus added in 10 kills, hit .276 and recorded eight blocks, followed by
Sarah Wight who picked up nine kills, hit .207 and notched nine blocks.
Jayla Wesley picked up five kills and nine blocks, while
Karlie Kucharczyk recorded 24 digs.
Rachel Jacquay dished out 59 assists and 17 digs.
