GVSU Volleyball defeats PNW; Clinches GLIAC South Division Title

The Lakers will close out the regular season tomorrow afternoon

HAMMOND, Ind. – The Grand Valley State volleyball team clinched the GLIAC South Division title after a 3-0 win (25-22, 25-21, 25-17) over Purdue Northwest on Friday night. The Lakers improve to 10-3 on the season and will play the regular season finale tomorrow afternoon against Purdue Northwest at 3:00 PM ET. The GLIAC Tournament will begin Friday, April 9 at Saginaw Valley State University.

Abby Graham recorded a team-high 11 kills, while Sarah White and Karlie Kucharczyk totaled nine and eight kills respectively. Jaelianna Primus led the frontline with six total blocks and setter Rachel Jacquay tallied 29 assists. As a team, the Lakers led in most statistical categories including; kills (43-31), assists (41-29), digs (72-66), and attack percentage (.180-.102).
 
GVSU trailed 10-7 early in set one before going on a 7-2 run to build a 19-14 lead. The Pride would continue to hang around and trimmed the deficit to 21-20, but the Lakers finished the set a few points later on a Primus kill. Purdue Northwest would lead early once again in set two, however the Lakers gained control midway through the set and took a 14-10 lead. Leading 24-18, GVSU held off a late PNW surge and won the set on a ball handling error by the Pride.
 
Set three was similar to the first two sets as Purdue Northwest jumped out to an 11-7 advantage. The Lakers would answer on an 8-1 run and led 15-12. The Pride tied the set at 16-16 before GVSU closed the match on a 9-1 run capped by a Graham service ace.
