The Grand Valley State volleyball team defeated the Purdue Northwest Pride on Saturday, Nov. 6 in a three set sweep. The Lakers advance to 9-4 in GLIAC play and 16-8 overall. This is the second win against the Pride for the Lakers this season. GVSU now leads the overall series against PNW 10-0.
The Lakers won set one with a score of 25-19 and senior Ali Thompson led all attackers in the set with seven kills. Freshman Julia Blaney led all players with 11 digs in set one. GVSU was off to an early lead 10-5 to start set two before defeating PNW 25-15 to end the second set. Senior Abby Graham led the set with five kills while junior Sarah Wight added four kills. The Lakers took home set three in a 25-19 win to sweep the Pride. Senior Kaily Grulke and Sarah Wight led the set with five kills a piece.
The Lakers finished with 48 kills, a .227 kill percentage, 43 digs, and seven blocks. Sarah Wight tallied 13 kills and three blocks, while Ali Thompson finished with nine kills and six aces. Abby Graham finished with eight kills, three blocks, and 10 digs. Senior Cameryn Brown totaled a season-high three blocks and junior setter Rachel Jacquay finished with 40 assists.
The Lakers are back in action on Saturday, Nov. 13 at Parkside at 3:00 p.m. EST.
