Lakers Defeat Parkside Rangers in Final Game of the Regular Season

GVSU Finishes 10-4 in the GLIAC

The Grand Valley State women's volleyball team defeated Wisconsin Parkside on Saturday, Nov. 13 in a three set sweep on the road. The Lakers complete the regular season with a 10-4 GLIAC record and overall record of 17-8. GVSU currently sits in second in the GLIAC South Division and fourth overall in the conference. 

The Lakers defeated the Rangers in three sets (25-12, 25-17, 25-12) for their second sweep over Parkside this season. After only having a one point lead in the first set (7-6), the Lakers went on an 18-6 point run to take home the first set. Junior Sarah Wight led all attackers in set one with four kills. After trailing 6-4 to start set two, GVSU went on a six point run with three kills from senior Ali Thompson to take the lead 10-6. GVSU led the rest of the match, winning 25-17. The Lakers stole the lead early in the third set, starting off with an 8-4 advantage. Grand Valley State went on a 7-3 run to extend their lead to 15-7. The Lakers won the final set 25-12 and were led by senior Kaily Grulke and junior Lisa Sullivan with four kills a piece in set three. 

Seniors Ali Thompson and Abby Graham led the Lakers with eight kills a piece, while Graham also tallied 10 digs and a block. Sarah Wight finished with seven kills, followed by Kaily Grulke who finished with six kills and two solo blocks. Libero Julia Blaney tallied 16 digs for the Lakers, while setter Rachel Jacquay dished out 30 assists.
