The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) announced that Grand Valley State sophomore LB Abe Swanson (St. Charles, Ill.) has been named the GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week. Swanson tallied a career-high 17 tackles (9 solo/8 assisted), a QB sack (-8) and a tackle for loss (-8) in the Lakers' 28-24 GLIAC road win at Northern Michigan. Swanson recorded a key QB sack and tackle for loss on a third down play in the fourth quarter that thwarted the Wildcat drive and forced a field goal attempt. The Laker defense limited NMU to a 4.4 yards per play average, including a 3.0 yards per rush average on 34 attempts (102 yards). Swanson ranks fourth in the GLIAC in total tackles with 65 (9.3 pg), while also recording 5.5 tackles for loss (-32), 1.5QB sacks (-9), one interceptions and a fumble recovery.
