DETROIT, Mich. – The Grand Valley State women's basketball team erased a 10-point halftime deficit to earn a hard-fought victory at Wayne State on Saturday afternoon, 66-57. The Lakers improve to 7-1 overall, while the Warriors drop to 4-4.
Trailing 37-27 at the break, GVSU was able to cut the Wayne State lead to just three points at 37-34 three minutes into the second half. The Warriors answered and built the lead back to seven points before the Lakers ended the third quarter on a 5-0 run and trailed 43-41 entering the final frame.

Hannah Kulas knocked down a three-pointer early in the fourth to give the Lakers their first lead since the 8:34 mark of the first quarter. Wayne State took the lead back 49-48 with just under seven minutes to go, but an
Emily Spitzley layup gave the lead back to GVSU and they never relinquished it. Clutch free-throws by Kulas and Spitzley put the game out of reach.
Spitzley had a team-high 17 points with five rebounds and four assists, while Kulas scored 16 points, grabbed six rebounds, and recorded four steals. Senior
Qay Stanton also finished in double-figure with 11 points. As a team, the Lakers tallied a season-high 15 steals and forced Wayne State into 23 turnovers.
The two teams will meet again tomorrow afternoon as the Lakers look for the sweep. Tip-off is set for 2 PM.
