ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Grand Valley State men's and women's track and field teams return to action on Friday, Jan. 29 at home in the Bill Clinger Classic.  The Lakers host student-athletes from Aquinas, Calvin, Davenport, Ferris State, Hillsdale, Tiffin and Valparaiso.

Both squads enter the season atop the leaderboard in the USTFCCCA Week 1 National Rating Index.  The women earned the No. 1 spot with 320.96 points – more than 110 points ahead of runner-up Central Missouri – while the men racked up 236.81 points.

On the track, the women hold numerous top-10 marks, with Nicole Sreenan leading the division in the 60m (7.51), 200m (24.01) and 400m (53.47).  The Laker senior was named the USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week after breaking the school record in the 400m (1/26).  Senior Allie Ludge (Track) and junior Judith Essemiah (Field) hold GLIAC Athlete of the Week honors (1/21) following their provisional marks at the season-commencing GVSU Bob Eubanks Open.  Essemiah's weight throw toss of 19.15m ranks as the top distance in Division II.

The men have been dominant on the track thanks in large part to the distance threats of Tanner Chada, Caleb Futter and Isaac Harding in the mile and 3,000m.  Dennis Mbuta and John Groendyk rank fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 800m.  Senior Justin Scavarda holds a GLIAC Field Athlete of the Week honor (1/21) after hitting an automatic qualification in the shot put with a throw of 18.55m.

Men's high jump begins the action at 1:45 p.m.  The Bill Clinger Classic will be broadcast on the Grand Valley Sports Network for a pay-per-view fee with each event group having its own stream.  A detailed schedule of the stream can be found below.
