ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Grand Valley State women's basketball team completed the sweep of Ashland on Sunday afternoon, 70-67, to give the Eagles back-to-back losses for the first time since 2014-15. The Lakers improve to 4-0 on the season and Ashland drops to 2-2.

Emily Spitzley scored a team-high 15 points,
Samantha Gehrls poured in 12 points, and freshman
Hadley Miller scored a career-high 10 points. Freshman
Rylie Bisballe posted her first career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds (9 offensive), while
Hannah Kulas stuffed the stat sheet once again with nine points, five rebounds, four assists, and three steals.
A high scoring first quarter featured multiple lead changes before Ashland ended the quarter on a 13-6 run to take a 27-22 lead into the second quarter. The contest remained tight into the second quarter as Ashland held a 35-34 lead with 3:13 left in the half. GVSU gained their first lead since early in the first quarter with a 7-0 run to end the half and took a 41-35 lead into the break.
GVSU came out in the second half and built their largest lead of the game at 54-43 on a Gehrls three-point basket before Ashland quickly shrunk the lead to 55-50 at the end of the third quarter. The game remained close into the fourth quarter, but Ashland never took the lead back. GVSU led 68-64 with 22 seconds left and the Eagles buried a three-pointer to make it 68-67. Miller knocked down a pair of free-throws with three seconds left and Bisballe stole the inbounds pass to end the game.
The Lakers will be back in action on Friday (Jan. 22) as they travel to Parkside to take on the Rangers at 4:00 PM ET.
