The Grand Valley State women's tennis team competed in the ITA Regional Championships hosted by Davenport this weekend (Sept. 20-22). GVSU held a 2-0 record prior to this tournament.
Taylor Barrett (6-3, 6-4) and
Marily Canellopoulos (6-1, 6-4) both posted an individual win in the A singles bracket before dropping the second match to their opponents, 6-2, 6-1; 6-2, 6-3, respectively.
Marija Leko competed in the A singles bracket, dropping her matches, 6-2, 6-1; 6-2, 6-2.
Vera Griva lost her first match, 6-7(3),7-5, 10-8, before winning her second and third matches, 6-7(2), 6-3, 10-8; 7-6(3), 6-3.
Liv Hanover competed in the B singles bracket where she won her first three matches, 6-1, 6-1; 6-3, 6-2; 3-6, 6-2, 10-1, but fell short in her final match, 2-6, 6-2, 2-10.
Agata Szewczuk lost in her first singles match, 7-6(4), 3-6, 1-10.
Canellopoulos and Griva posted strong wins in the A doubles bracket, winning 8-2, 8-5 before losing in the semifinals, 1-8. Barrett and Leko also competed in A doubles, but lost in the first round, 0-8.
Hanover and Szewczuk won their first match in the B doubles bracket, 8-1, but lost in the quarterfinals, 3-8.
The team will travel to Big Rapids, Mich. to take on the Ferris State Bulldogs on Oct. 2.
