The Grand Valley State women's tennis team won its final regular season match of the 2018-19 season with a 7-0 win over Wilmington, on Sunday (April 7) morning. The Lakers end the regular season with a 21-4 overall record, as this was their ninth shutout win this season and will now wait for the NCAA Division II Selection Announcement on May 7, to find out if they receive an at-large bid for the NCAA postseason.
GVSU started the match off with a sweep in doubles as
Madison Ballard and
Marija Leko won 6-2 from the No. 1 pairing, while
Vera Griva and
Marily Canellopoulos captured a 6-1 win from the No. 2 slot.
Nicole Heiniger and
Livia Christman completed the sweep as they tallied a 6-2 victory from No. 3 doubles.
The Lakers powered their way through singles play, as Griva and Ballard won from the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. Vera tallied a 6-1, 6-3 win, while Ballard captured a 6-2, 6-1 victory. Playing from No. 3 singles was Leko and she won 6-2, 6-2, as Canellopoulos also won from the No. 4 position in three sets by a score of 6-0, 6-7 (2-7), 6-4. GVSU completed the shutout as Christman won 6-0, 6-1, from the No. 5 slot, while Heiniger won in straight sets from the No. 6 spot, 6-0, 6-0.
Grand Valley State will now wait for the NCAA Division II Selection Show on May 7, to find out if they receive an at-large bid for the NCAA postseason.
