Grand Valley State split a GLIAC doubleheader Saturday afternoon with Purdue Northwest, dropping game one 7-0, but coming back to take game two 4-1. The Lakers are now 14-24-1 on the year and 7-14-1 in GLIAC action. GVSU will host Hillsdale Wednesday (May 1) at 3 p.m.
Game 1
Purdue Northwest took advantage of four GVSU errors as six of seven runs scored were unearned. PNW scored seven runs on three hits and four Laker errors, while the Lakers managed five hits. 1B
Nathan Bonter was 2-for-4, while
Parker Murdie,
Chase Carpenter and
Riley Creamer each recorded a hit. Junior LHP
Cade Cintorino yielded three hits and six runs, one of which was earned, with a strikeout.
Christian Sidoti pitched a hitless seventh with two strikeouts.Â
Game 2
Freshman RHP
Rylan Peets tossed a complete-game, four-hitter with five strikeouts as he evened his record to 3-3 on the year. Peets needed just 90 pitches to record his first complete game. The Lakers took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third when Murdie singled and scored on a double by
Joe Laudont. Murdie and Bonter opened the fifth with back-to-back singles, followed by groundout that plated Murdie. The Lakers added a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth when 2B
Anthony Cocco walked and RF
Chase Carpenter was hit by a pitch.
Ryan Lorber moved both up with a sac bunt and CF
Drake Ellens came through with a single to left to plate the pair. After a leadoff double to left center, Peets closed the game with two fly outs and a  strikeout.Â
Murdie was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, while Bonter, Laudont, Lorber, Creamer and Ellens each collected a hit.Â
