Grand Valley State dropped a 7-2 decision to Northwood in the opening game of a four-game series at the GVSU Baseball Field. Games two and three will be played Saturday (May 4) beginning at 1 p.m.
Northwood took a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the first on two hits, but the Lakers got out of a bases loaded jam with a 6-4-3 double play. The Laker offense then got rolling with two outs in the bottom of the first. C
Joe Laudont singled, followed by a single to right that moved Laudont to third. LF Conner Grice singled to right to plate Laudont and 2B
Anthony Cocco singled to right to score Bonter and give GVSU a 2-1 lead.
GVSU held the lead until the top of the fourth when Northwood scored a pair of runs on three hits, but
Nick Shaw got out of the inning with a strikeout to keep the Lakers within one (3-2).
LF Conner Grice was 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Laudont, Bonter, Cocco and
Riley Creamer each collected a hit. Shaw was tagged with the loss, yielding three runs on eight hits in 4.2 innings with four strikeouts.
Luke Hargis gave up four runs on four hits in four innings, while striking out three.
