Grand Valley State picked up a GLIAC doubleheader sweep Friday afternoon at the GVSU Baseball Field, claiming a 22-1 victory in game one and a 7-3 decision in game two. The Lakers and Rangers will complete the series Saturday with another twin bill beginning at 1 p.m. GVSU is now 11-19-1 on the year.

Game 1

The Lakers' 21-run margin of victory is a school record as a DII member. Previously GVSU had recorded three 20-run wins, most recently a 20-0 win over Gannon April 6, 2007. Grand Valley State scored single runs in the first and second innings before blowing the game open with five runs in the third and 14 more in the fourth. The Lakers pounded out 17 hits en route to the win.

Junior LHP Cade Cintorino upped his record to 3-3 on the year with the complete-game, three hitter. Cintorino struck out 10 and walked just one in 7.0 innings of work. Six Lakers collected two or more hits and seven collected two or more RBI. RF Chase Carpenter was 4-for-4 with four runs scored and two RBI, while C Joe Laudont was 3-for-3 with three runs and three RBI. 1B Nathan Bonter, DH Cameron Brayman, CF Drake Ellens and 3B Christian Faust each tallied two hits, while LF Connor Grice (2), Nate Chase (2), Brayman (2) and Faust (3) recorded multi RBIs.

Game 2
Parkside scored two runs in the top of the first, but Ellens got the Lakers on the board with a 3-run HR in the bottom of the second. The Rangers tied the game with a run in the top of the third, but Bonter drilled a three-run blast over the wall in left center to up the Laker lead to 6-3. GVSU added a run in the bottom of the sixth on a sac fly off the bat Faust.

Laker pitchers allowed just one hit over the final six innings and did not walk a batter. Freshman Rylan Peets got the start, but was not involved in the decision. Peets allowed three runs on six hits with five strikeouts in 4.0 innings of work. LHP Nick Shaw picked up the win in relief, striking out eight in 4.0 innings of action. Shaw struck out seven consecutive batters at one point. Brendan Nearing struck out the side in the top of the ninth.
