#15 Lakers Fall 14-11 At #21 Colorado Mesa

#15 Grand Valley State dropped a 14-11 decision at #21 Colorado Mesa Tuesday (March 5) evening in a game that was delayed several hours. The game officials were unable to make the original start time because of an avalanche that covered the roads into Colorado Mesa. GVSU (3-1) will finish its trip with a game Friday (March 8) at Regis in Denver, Colorado. Opening draw is set for 3 p.m. (ET).

Colorado Mesa jumped out to an early 4-0 lead before Sarah Stagaard scored her eighth goal of the season at the 16:31 mark. However, the Mavericks answered with three more goals to build a 7-1 lead. Kelley Fitzgerald tallied a goal at the 3:39 mark as Olivia Esposito picked up her second assist of the night, but CM scored with just 21 seconds left in the opening stanza to take an 8-2 lead into the lockerroom.

The Lakers opened the second half with back-to-back goals to pull within four (8-4) as Abbi O'Neal recorded her 12th goal of the season (28:51), followed by an Annie Yost goal at the 26:25 mark. Stagaard registered the assist on O'Neal's goal, while Sophie Conroy added the helper on Yosts' goal. Colorado Mesa answered just 14 seconds later with a goal and added two more to pull out to an 11-4 lead. Carly Shisler notched a goal, but Mesa put back-to-back shots in the net before Fitzgerald recorded her second goal of the night. Colorado Mesa built a 14-6 lead before the Lakers scored five consecutive goals for the final margin of 14-11. Fitzgerald, Shisler and two by O'Neal hit the back of the net before Conroy scored her second goal of the season.
