#3 Lakers hit century mark in blowout victory over Parkisde to open GLIAC play

Boensch and DeBoer each recorded season-high point totals in the win

ALLENDALE, Mich – The #3 ranked Grand Valley State women's basketball team cruised to a 109-70 victory over Wisconsin-Parkside in the GLIAC opener inside the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena on Thursday night. The Lakers improve to 7-0 overall and 1-0 in GLIAC play, while Parkside falls to 2-6 overall and 0-1 in league play.
 
Senior center Cassidy Boensch put on a clinic inside the paint, scoring a season-high 31 points on 13 of 14 shooting from the field in just 19 minutes on the floor. The Au Gres, Mich. native added 10 rebounds to record her fourth double-double of the season. Senior guard Jenn DeBoer also had a season-high 22 points (9-14 FG) and senior forward Maddie Dailey totaled 17 points (7-10 FG), seven rebounds, and four assists.
 
The Lakers hit the 100-point mark for the first time since December 20, 2015 against U of M Dearborn as they shot 58.3% (42-72) from the field and 73.9% from the charity stripe (17-23). GVSU led 44-23 at the half before dropping 39 points in the third quarter and took an 83-45 lead into the final frame.
 
GVSU jumped out to a 16-6 lead through the first five minutes of play with Boensch scoring 10 of her 31 points in the first six minutes of the contest. Entering the second quarter, Parkside trailed by nine points but back-to-back DeBoer three-pointers increased the lead to 16 at 32-16 and the route continued. The Lakers grew their lead to 22 with 1:25 left in the half on a three-point basket made by Brooke McKinley.
 
The Lakers began their 39-point third quarter, the highest scoring quarter in program history (women began playing quarters in 2015-16), hitting their first five shots. GVSU shot 72.73% (16-22) in the frame while sinking 6-7 free throws. At the 5:39 mark of the fourth quarter another three-pointer by McKinley stretched the Lakers lead to a game-high 43 points.
 
GVSU will be back in action on Saturday against Purdue Northwest at the Fieldhouse Arena beginning at 1:00 PM.
