The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) announced the 2019 volleyball individual award winners and All-GLIAC teams on Friday night, as selected by the conference coaches.
Jaeli Primus was named GLIAC Freshman of the Year and All-GLIAC second team, while sophomore
Ali Thompson earned All-GLIAC second team honors. Senior
Kendall Yerkes was named All-GLIAC Honorable Mention.
Primus put together an impressive freshman campaign as middle blocker for the Lakers. The Hudsonville, Mich. native led the GLIAC the entire season in total blocks (117) and blocks per set (1.14), while totaling 255 kills (2.48 kill per set) and a .310 attack percentage. The freshman was named GLIAC South Player of the Week on Nov. 4 after her career-high 16 kill performance with a .640 attack percentage in a 3-1 win over Davenport.
Thompson, who earned All-GLIAC Honorable Mention as a freshman, earned second team honors as a sophomore. The Cincinnati, Ohio native led the team in kills with 314, while finishing third in the GLIAC in service aces at 34. The sophomore also recorded 334 digs. Thompson was named GLIAC South Player of the Week on Oct. 14 after a career-high 22-kill performance with a .404 attack percentage against #14 Ferris State.
Yerkes ranked among the top-five in the conference in both service aces per set (2
nd) and digs per set (4
th) with 36 service aces and 439 digs in her final season in Allendale.
