The Grand Valley State women's tennis team defeated the Ferris State Bulldogs, 4-3, on Wednesday (Oct. 2). The Lakers now post a 3-0 record and are accompanied by Wayne State as the only two undefeated teams in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
In singles competition,
Vera Griva (6-3, 6-2),
Taylor Barrett (6-3, 6-4),
Marija Leko (6-1, 6-2) and
Marily Canellopoulos (6-2, 4-6, 7-5) all posted wins over their opponents from spots one through four, respectively.
Liv Hanover (5-7, 3-6) and
Agata Szewczuk (0-6, 6-1, 9-11) dropped their matches from the fifth and sixth singles spots.
Barrett and Leko posted a Laker win in doubles play, defeating the Bulldogs 6-2. Griva and Canellopoulos and Szewczuk and Hanover dropped their doubles matches, 2-6.
The Lakers will travel to Hammond, Ind. to compete against the Purdue Northwest Pride on Saturday, Oct. 5.
