The No. 9 Grand Valley State women's basketball team (13-1, 6-0 GLIAC) will welcome Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) opponents Saginaw Valley State (3-10, 3-3 GLIAC) and Northwood (6-8, 3-3 GLIAC) this weekend (Jan. 10 & 12) as they look to extend their 11-game winning streak and remain undefeated in conference play to stay atop the GLIAC South Division.

GVSU most recently hosted Ferris State last Thursday (Jan. 3) before traveling to Lake Superior State on Saturday (Jan. 5) where they earned their fifth and sixth conference victories, respectively. The Lakers outlasted a late comeback attempt by the Bulldogs, 76-61, behind Cassidy Boensch's 25-point, 10 rebound performance before a 21-point performance from the center helped GVSU earn their ninth 20-plus point victory of the season, 71-50.

During the Lakers' 11-game streak, they have played in just one game decided by less than 10 points when they outlasted the Indianapolis Greyhounds, 80-71, in double overtime to begin the streak. The efficiency GVSU has been playing at has led to the sixth best scoring margin in the country as they are averaging 25.7 more points per game than their opponents. Their 79.1 points per game is 22nd nationally while their 53.4 points allowed is eighth.

Boensch currently leads the squad with 18.9 points and 11.9 rebounds per game and has tallied a double double in 10 contests this season, the second most in Division II. She has also rejected a team-high 42 shots this season. Just behind Boensch in scoring is guard Jenn DeBoer who is averaging 16.9 points and leads the team with 59 assists while shooting just over 40.0% from beyond the arc.

Guard Victoria Hedemark is shooting 53.3% from the field to help her to a 9.3 scoring average but is most comfortable guarding the ball where she has swiped a team-best 39 steals this season. Forward Maddie Dailey has been consistent in all facets of the game, averaging 9.0 points and 4.9 rebounds while picking up 15 blocks, 12 steals, and 21 assists.

The GVSU and SVSU rivalry dates back to February 9, 1971 and the teams' have faced off 100 times since then with the Lakers leading the all-time series, 56-34. The Cardinals recently snapped a five-game skid when they earned a couple of conference victories over Purdue Northwest and Wisconsin-Parkside last weekend, 48-45 and 77-72, respectively.

The Cardinals are scoring just 60.8 points per game this season but have the ability to score in bunches as they fire off the second most three's per game, making the fifth most. The Lakers will also be challenged by the nation's fifth leading rebounder in Abby Duffy as the senior forward is pulling down 12.5 boards per game. She is also the squads leading scorer with 15.2 points per game.

Freshman Maddie Barrie has made a name for herself in her first collegiate season, scoring 11.5 points per game while shooting nearly 40.0% from the field. Senior Hannah Settingsgaard is also averaging double digits, pouring in 10.8 points.

Just like the Cardinals, the Timberwolves earned two conference victories over Parkside and Purdue Northwest last weekend to move them to an even .500 in conference play (3-3). GVSU and NU will be playing in their 86th meeting on Saturday, with GVSU holding a 56-19 advantage in the all-time series.

In another similarity to the Cardinals, the Timberwolves like to take their shots from deep, ranking third in both three's attempted (24.7) and three's made (7.4) per game. While they are also averaging 14.6 turnovers per game, they are making that ground up most of the time with 8.4 steals a game, both of which are fourth in the conference.

A trio of Timberwolves are averaging double digits, led by sophomore guard Ellie Taylor who is scoring 13.1 a game. Just behind her are Adrianna Stolicker (10.6 ppg) and Grace German (10.1 ppg) while Kenzie Seeley is a close fourth with 9.4 points a game. German is also the squads leading rebounder with 9.1 boards a game.

Following this pair of home games, the Lakers will start a five-game road trip that starts out with the long trek to Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan on January 17 & 19, respectively. They will then make the short trip to Davenport before heading off to Wayne State and Ashland the following weekend.
