The Grand Valley State women's tennis team (2-0 overall, 2-0 GLIAC) claimed a 6-1 GLIAC road victory over Davenport (0-3, 0-3 GLIAC) Wednesday evening. The Lakers return to action Sunday (Sept. 30) for a home contest against Purdue Northwest, with first serve set for 10:00 a.m.

In doubles, the Lakers won both of their matches to earn the doubles' point after strong performances from the No. 1 and No. 2 pairings.
Vera Griva and
Marily Canellopoulos played from the No. 1 spot and won 6-1, while the duo of
Madison Ballard and
Nicole Heiniger claimed a 6-2 victory from the No. 2 slot.

The Lakers were just as dominated in singles as they were in doubles after they took three out of the four matches. Ballard continued her strong play from No. 1 singles and won 6-0, 6-4, while Griva won in straight sets 6-0, 6-0, from the No. 2 singles position. Playing from the No. 4 slot was Canellopolous and she was able to claim a point for GVSU after a 6-3, 7-5 victory.Â
Marija Leko also played for the Lakers from the No. 3 spot, but dropped a tough three-set match by a score of 3-6, 6-1, 6-10.

GVSU was also awarded two duel singles wins, as Davenport had to forfeit their final two matches.
Grand Valley State returns to the GVSU Tennis Courts on Sunday (Sept. 30) for a match against Purdue Northwest, with first serve set for 10:00 a.m.
