Lakers fall to Ashland, will look to avoid elimination tonight

GVSU falls to 1-1 in double elimination GLIAC Tournament

Box Score DETROIT -- The Grand Valley State Lakers baseball season is on the brink after a 7-0 loss to the Ashland Eagles Saturday afternoon in the second round of the 2018 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament at The Corner Ballpark. The Lakers are now 1-1 in the tournament and will need a win tonight against two-seed Davenport to keep their season alive. Ashland moves to 2-0 in the tournament and advances in the winners bracket to face Northwood.

Ashland pushed across single runs in the first and fifth inning before breaking things open with a six-run seventh inning. Ryan Arnold was charged with seven runs, five earned, on nine hits as he worked 6.1 innings but suffered the loss. Alex Mandeville had three hits for the Lakers and Josh C. Smith had a pair of hits, including a triple, but the Lakers couldn't take advantage. @GVSUBaseball on Twitter and gvsulakers.com will have live coverage of tonight's game, which is set to start 30 minutes after the conclusion of the Northwood-Ashland game, approximately 9:00 PM ET.
