It was Grand Valley State's senior day in the regular season, home finale and what a day the seniors had. GVSU claimed a 7-4 victory over the Saginaw Valley State, improving to 26-18 overall and 14-10 in GLIAC action. The Lakers will close the 2018 regular season next Friday (May 4) through Sunday (May 6) at Wayne State with a four-game series.

Tate Brawley (5-1) picked up the win on the mound, yielding four runs, two of which were earned, on five hits with four strikeouts. Brawley lasted 7.2 innings and was efficient with just 79 pitches. Senior RF
Kyle Lawson picked up his ninth save of the year, getting the final four outs on just 12 pitches.
Saginaw Valley State picked up the early lead with an unearned run in the first and stayed just ahead of the Lakers through the first six innings. GVSU tied the game with a run on two hits in the second. LaDoux and Smith both singled and a walk to freshman C

Brawley hit back-to-back Cardinals, both of which came around to score and to up the SVSU lead to 4-2 after four innings of play. GVSU pulled to within 4-3 in the sixth when LaDoux doubled to left and Smith singled to get a first and third situation. Glick reached on fielder's choice to plate LaDoux before the Lakers broke the game open in the seventh.

Nolan Anspaugh drove a full count fastball to left for a double and LF
Zach Berry reached on a perfect bunt to move Anspaugh to third. Following a strikeout, Blake-Jones tied the game with a SAC fly and LaDoux plated Berry with his second double of the game to give the Lakers a 5-4 lead. Smith then delivered the knockout blow with a 2-run bomb off the batters eye in centerfield to give GVSU a 7-4 lead.
Lawson got the final four outs on 12 pitches to preserve the win.
LaDoux was 3-for-4 with three runs scored, one RBI and two doubles, while Smith was 3-for-4 with one run scored, two RBI and 2-run HR. Blake-Jones was 1-for-3 with two RBI and Glick drove in a run. The GVSU offense scored seven runs on 11 hits, while Brawley and Lawson limited the Cardinals to just five hits.
