The Grand Valley State (23-17; 11-9 GLIAC) baseball team will host GLIAC rival Saginaw Valley State (19-21, 4-15 GLIAC) in a key four-game series starting Friday (April 27) afternoon at 2 p.m. All four games can be viewed live on ESPN3 with Tom Cleary and former Laker great Matt Williams calling the action. GVSU was ranked seventh in the first NCAA Division II Midwest Regional rankings released on Wednesday, with the top eight advancing to the NCAA Midwest Regional Tournament. 

Senior Ryan Arnold continues to lead the way for the Lakers on the hill, recording a 6-1 record with a 4.02 ERA. Fellow senior Tate Brawley is 4-1 overall and 4-0 in GLIAC action with a 4.25 ERA. Brawley has 44 strikeouts and just eight walks in 55.0 innings pitched. 

Sophomore 1B Ryan Blake-Jones is hitting .451 with a team-high 64 hits and 44 RBI, while senior catcher Austin LaDoux is hitting .413 with 57 hits, a team-high 13 doubles and 27 RBI. Junior RF Jacob Gleason has a .381 batting average, 41 RBI and a team high seven home runs. Senior 2B Josh C. Smith is hitting .379 in GLIAC action and LF Zach Berry leads the team in RBIs in GLIAC play with 20.

The weekend series with Saginaw Valley State will be the final home games for the 2018 season. The GVSU program and Laker Athletics will honor the Lakers' nine seniors prior to start of Sunday's 12 noon first pitch.
