ALLENDALE, Mich. – On a special night at the GVSU Lacrosse Field, the Grand Valley State Lakers dominated from start to finish in a 22-3 defeat of the Northern Michigan Wildcats in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action Friday. The Lakers, clad in orange-numbered jerseys and headbands to represent Multiple Sclerosis awareness, never trailed as they honored
Abbi O'Neal and
Ashley Bailey in style. The Lakers improve to 11-4 on the season and 9-1 in the GLIAC while Northern Michigan moves to 2-10 on the year and 1-8 in conference play.
Carly Shisler continued her recent dominance with a game-high five goals, converting on all five of her shot attempts. GVSU had 11 different scorers in the contest, including seven with multiple tallies. Bailey, on a night partially designed to honor her grandmother, recorded a hat-trick. The Lakers scored the first four goals of the match before the Wildcats got on the board. The Lakers would respond with 18 unanswered goals and their stellar play forced a running clock ten minutes into the match that would never stop (except for half time and ESPN3 media timeouts).
