Lakers win fourth straight contest, home opener set for Thursday

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The No. 18 Grand Valley State Lakers earned their fourth straight win after downing the Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears, 22-5, Sunday afternoon in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action at Sea Foam Stadium. Meggan Loyd led the Laker attack with five goals. GVSU improves to 5-2 on the year and 3-0 in the conference while dropping the Golden Bears fall to 4-3 on the season and 1-2 in the league.

The Lakers dominated several statistical categories including shots (45-19), shots on goal (32-15) and draw controls (21-6). Loyd scored five goals while Erika Neumen and Ashley Bailey each recorded hat-tricks with three goals apiece. Brianna DeMilia made seven saves for the Lakers, who used three goalies in the match.

Loyd got the Lakers on the board less than a minute in, taking a feed from Abbi O'Neal and turning it on net for the first goal of the game. GVSU scored the first five goals and eight of the first nine to establish an early lead. The Lakers led 13-3 at the half and dominated the scoring yet again in the second period.

The Lakers look to improve upon their winning streak in their 2018 home opener on Thursday (March 29) against Indianapolis. GVSULakers.com and @GVSUWLAX on Twitter will have live and post-game coverage.
