Grand Valley State split a GLIAC twinbill at Purdue Northwest Saturday afternoon, dropping the first game 3-1, but claiming a game-two on a complete-game, one-hitter by
Josh D. Smith 6-0. The fourth and final game of the weekend series will begin Sunday at 1 p.m. (ET).
GVSU picked up the win in game two behind a dominating performance on the mound by Smith. The only hit he allowed was a single with one out in the bottom of the first and he retired the final 10 batters he faced in order. He struck out four and walked three. The Laker offense got on the board with five runs on four hits in the bottom of the third. 2B

Nolan Anspaugh walked and LF
Zach Berry singled to plate Smith. RF
Jacob Gleason singled to center to score Anspaugh, followed by a single off the bat of 1B
Ryan Blake-Jones that scored Berry. C
Austin LaDoux then tripled to center to plate Gleason and Blake-Jones and give the Lakers a 5-0 lead. GVSU added another run in the bottom of the fourth when Smith doubled and scored on a single to left by SS
Alex Mandeville.
Berry was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored, while LaDoux was 1-for-3 with two RBI. Smith scored a pair of runs.
The Lakers got a two-hit, complete-game from starter Blake Sahlstrom in the opener Saturday, but three unearned runs on three Laker errors in the bottom of the fifth proved to be the undoing. GVSU took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth on two hits. Freshman 2B
Christian Faust walked with one out and moved to third on a single to right from N. Anspaugh. Berry then delivered a two-out single to center to score Faust.
Purdue Northwest scored three runs on just one hit with three Laker errors and a hit batter, all with two outs.
Dahlstrom struck out four and walked two in the tough luck loss. Anspaugh was 2-for-4, while Berry was 1-for-4 with an RBI.
