Grand Valley State split a twinbill at #13 Southern Indiana Tuesday afternoon at the Dunn Hospitality Classic in Evansville, Ind. The Lakers claimed a 4-3 win in game one, but dropped the nightcap by a 9-1 score. The Lakers, 2-4 overall, will next be in action in Kissimmee, Florida versus Seton Hill on Monday, March 5 at 2:30.

The Lakers tallied three consecutive singles to open the top of the second that led to a pair of runs. 3B
Austin LaDoux singled to left, followed by another single to left off the bat of 1B
Ryan Blake-Jones and a third single to left from C
Connor Glick that scored LaDoux. CF
Zach Berry moved Blake-Jones and Glick up with a sac bunt and SS
Alex Mandeville grounded out to score Blake-Jones.

Aaron Donald was hit by a pitch to lead off the top of the third and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Donald moved to third on another wild pitch and scored on a groundout by LaDoux to take a 3-0 lead. GVSU used a pair of Eagle errors to push across a run in the top of the fourth on no hits. Berry reached on a throwing error by the USI shortstop and Mandeville was hit by a pitch. DH
Chase Carpenter attempted to sac bunt the runners up, but reached base on a throwing error by the pitcher. Donald plated Berry on a groundout to up the Laker lead to 4-0.

Southern Indiana scored three runs on three hits and a Laker error in the bottom of the sixth, but could not mount much of a threat over the final three innings as no one advanced past second base.

Senior
Ryan Arnold picked up his first win of the year, yielding three runs on five hits in 4.2 innings with three strikeouts.
Alex Licata allowed just three hits in 3.1 innings, while
Kyle Lawson earned the save with two strikeouts in a scoreless ninth. LaDoux was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored, while Gleason, Blake-Jones and Glick each contributed a hit. Donald, Glick and Mandeville each drove in a run.

Southern Indiana scored a single run in the first, followed by three runs in the second and third innings to take a 7-0 lead and added a pair of runs in the fifth. The Lakers loaded the bases in the top of the sixth when CF
Drake Ellens singled, LF
Nolan Anspaugh was hit by a pitch and Gleason walked with no one out. Blake-Jones hit a SF to center to score Ellens. The Lakers loaded the bases again in the top of the seventh, but were unable to plate a run.
Nate Chase led the offense with a 2-for-2 outing.Â
