The Grand Valley State women's tennis team defeated Michigan Tech, 4-1, in the third-place match during the 2018 GLIAC Women's Tennis Tournament on Sunday (Oct. 28) morning. The Lakers end the fall season with a 10-2 overall record after they captured their sixth conference title and were named the GLIAC Regular Season Co-Champions with Northwood.

GVSU started off strong in doubles play as they claimed the first point of the match with solid wins from the No. 1 and No. 3 pairings. Vera Griva and Marily Canellopoulos played from the No. 1 position and won 6-1, while Livia Christman and Marija Leko captured a 6-2 win from No. 3 doubles. MTU did capture one win from the No. 2 pairing, after Madison Ballard and Nicole Heiniger dropped a 6-1 decision.

In singles, Grand Valley State continued their strong play as they captured three more points to win the match. Playing from the No. 6 slot was Liv Hanover, where she won 6-1, 6-2, while Heiniger won 6-4, 7-6(7-4), from No. 5 singles. Livia Christman tallied another point for the Lakers after she won 6-2, 6-4, from No. 3 singles. MTU did get on the scoreboard after they won at No. 2 singles, as Ballard fell 7-5, 6-3.

Grand Valley State will not compete again until Sunday (Feb. 3) when they host Indianapolis for a non-conference matchup.
