The Grand Valley State women's tennis team dropped a 4-0 decision to Wayne State during the GLIAC Women's Tennis Tournament semifinals on Saturday (Oct. 27) at the Greater Midland Tennis Complex in Midland, Michigan. GVSUÂ is now 9-2 on the season and will play either Northwood or Michigan Tech in the third-place match on Sunday (Oct. 28) at 8:15 a.m.

In doubles the Lakers were able to claim one win from the No. 3 pairing after
Livia Christman and
Marija Leko pulled together a 6-1 win. However, WSU would take the point in doubles with wins from the No. 1 and No. 2 positions.
Vera Griva and
Marily Canellopoulos dropped a 7-5 decision from No. 1 doubles, while
Madison Ballard and
Nicole Heiniger played from the No. 2 slot and fell 6-3.

In singles play, the Lakers were unable to find their groove as the Warriors claimed three more points to earn the team victory. Griva played from the No. 1 position and fell 6-3, 6-2, while Canellopoulos who played from the No. 3 spot and fell in three sets after she won the first set 7-6, but dropped the next two by a score of 5-7, 4-6. Christman fought hard but dropped a tough decision from the No. 4 slot by a score of 6-1, 7-6(1)

Grand Valley State will play Sunday (Oct. 28) in the third-place match against either Northwood or Michigan Tech, with first starting at 8:15 a.m. at the Greater Midland Tennis Center.
