#2 Grand Valley State will host #3 Ferris State Saturday night (Oct. 13) in a key matchup that will have GLIAC title and NCAA DII playoff implications. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Lubbers Stadium.  Grand Valley State currently has a limited number of standing room only seats available.

The Series
Grand Valley State leads the all-time series with Ferris State by a 29-18-1 margin. The Lakers have won 16-of-the-last-23 meetings between the schools. GVSU is 14-10 at Lubbers Stadium versus the Bulldogs and 15-8-1 at Top Taggart Field. This will be the 12th time that either Grand Valley State or Ferris State has been ranked #1 or #2 when meeting, with the Lakers holding a 10-1 advantage. An unranked GVSU team claimed a 36-17 victory over #1 Ferris State in 1996 at Lubbers Stadium. Grand Valley State and Ferris State have met nine times when both are ranked in the NCAA or AFCA Coaches' Poll, with the Bulldogs holding a 5-3-1 advantage.  The teams are 3-3 in the last six meetigs when both are ranked since 2008. 
• Grand Valley State is the winningest FBS, FCS and Division II program in the country, boasting a record of 397-142-3 (.735) in 48 years of playing football. In addition, GVSU is also the winningest GLIAC program all-time with a 289-72-3 mark (.798). 
 
• GVSU has won four NCAA Division II Football National Championships, made 19 playoff appearances, won 17 league titles, captured nine NCAA regional titles, made nine trips to the NCAA DII semifinals and six to the NCAA DII title game. 

• The Lakers are well on their way to leading the NCAA DII ranks in attendence for the 7th consecutive year. After three games GVSU has drawn 40,502 in total attendence for an average of 13,501. The single-game record of 16,889 that watched the Lakers claim a 35-23 victory over the Bulldogs in Lubbers Stadium could be in jeporady. 

• GVSU head football coach Matt Mitchell is second in all-time wins at GVSU with 83. Current Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly is first with 118 career wins. 

• Grand Valley State has started the season 6-0 for the 12th time in the last 18 years and the third time in head coach Matt Mitchell's career. The Lakers started 6-0 in 2010, 2016 and 2018. 

• The Lakers have gotten off to a quick start offensively, with a stingy defense in the first half. GVSU has outscored its opponents 124--31 (20.6-5.1) in the opening 12 quarters.

• The Lakers are 15-8 when facing a top five ranked opponent.
• Grand Valley State is number No. 2 in the latest AFCA Coaches' Poll.

• The Laker defense ranks fourth in scoring defense, allowing 12.0 ppg. 

• Grand Valley State ranks 12th in total defense (268.0) and 28th in total offense (456.7). 
   
• GVSU ranks 2nd nationally in turnovers lost (3), and third passes intercepted (1).

• Grand Valley State ranks 16th nationally in third down conversion offense (36-for-79/46.0) and 19th in third down conversion defense (23-for-84/27.0).

• The Lakers have converted 26-of-30 (86.0) redzone opportunities, including 23-of-30 (75.0) that have resulted in touchdowns. 

• The GVSU defense has 56 tackles for loss (-198) and 14 QB sacks (-92). Twenty-four different Lakers have recorded a TFL and 10 have a QB  sack.

• QB Bart Williams is now the Lakers' all-time leader in career passing yards (11,258) and passing TDs (122). Williams needs five passing yards to move into 25th in NCAA DII all-time passing yards and three TD passes to move into fourth in all-time passing TDs (125). In addition, Williams is fifth in all-time GLIAC passing yards (7,770) and second in passing TDs (86).   Bart, who improved to 38-7 as a starting QB for the Lakers, is a semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy for Academic and Athletic Excellence. 

• Senior WR Nick Dodson has caught 23 passes for 424 yards and six TDs in the Lakers' last four games.

Dodson, who has five career 100-yard receiving games, moved into 8th in all-time receptions with 134. In addition, Dodson now has 2,012 receiving yards. Next up is Eric Fowler who has 148 catches.  

• Junior RB Chawntez Moss has rushed for 601 yards and four TDs on 94 carries this season. Moss is averaging 100.2 yards rushing per game. 

• Freshman RB Jack Provencher has 314 rushing yards and five TDs, while catching 22 passes for 208 yards and three TDs. His 531 all-purpose yards is second on the squad.
• Senior DE Dylan Carroll has 151 career tackles, 31.0 tackles for loss and 14.5 QB sacks. 

•  Junior safety Jailyn Harden reached the 100 tackle mark for a career (101) with four tackles vs. Dixie State, while senior safety Jacob Studdard has 118 career tackles

• Grand Valley State senior quarterback Bart Williams was named the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week back-to-back weeks following his performances vs. Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan. Williams completed 23-of-37 passes for 382 yards and five TDs as GVSU claimed a 45-20 win over the Huskies. Just one week earlier in the Lakers' 47-14 victory at Northern Michigan, Williams completed 17-of-28 passes for 280 yards and four touchdowns, while toting the ball three times for 16 yards and his first career rushing TD, a six yard scamper.  

• Senior kicker J.J. McGrath has 19 touchbacks in 41 kickoffs this season and is averaging 62.0 yards per kick. 

• Senior punter Collin Cribley has punted 27 times for a 41.2 yards per punt average, including six of plus 50 yards and five inside the 20. Cribley set a GVSU single-game record for punting yards (12-541) at Delta State.

Triple Threat At WR - The WR unit consisting of Austin Paritee (28-523-8), Nick Dodson (26-454-6) and Brandon Wadley (11-271-0) have combined for 65 catches for 1,248 yards and 14 TDs in six games this season.

• The Grand Valley State pass defense has limited its first six opponents to 906 passing yards (109 yards-Indianapolis; 110-Delta State; 103- Northern Michigan; 214-Michigan Tech; 253-Dixie State) and six touchdowns via the pass. 

• GVSU tallied 18 tackles for loss, five QB sacks (-32), forced 10 punts and allowed just one touchdown at Delta State.

    2018: Completed 87-for-162 passes for 1,404 yards and 17 TDs...Williams has thrown one interception in 162 pass attempts this season.

• Grand Valley State will again face the toughest schedule in Division II football, evidenced by the 2018 ledger having four teams that advanced to the 2017 NCAA DII Playoffs. GVSU opened the season at home versus 2017 GLVC Champion and playoff participant Indianapolis, followed by a road tilt at DII power Delta State.. The Lakers will also host Ferris State (Oct. 13) and Ashland (Nov. 3) at Lubbers Stadium. 

• GVSU just finished a stretch of playing three road games in the first five weeks. The Lakers played in Cleveland, Mississippi (1,464 miles round trip) versus Delta State, followed by a road for a trip to Marquette, Michigan (828 miles round trip) to take on Northern Michigan. The Lakers traveled 2,392 miles between the back-to-back road games. GVSU played at Northwood last Saturday (Sept. 29) to complete the road swing.
