Box Score #14 Grand Valley State won its home opener, 2-0, verses Cedarville in a Friday evening matchup and improved to 1-2 on the season. The Lakers host No. 10 Minnesota State for a 12 p.m. start on Sunday (Sept. 10), for another top-10 matchup to close out their second week of action.

"The girls responded and it was important for us to be on the right end of the result," said head coach
Jeff Hosler. "We knocked the ball around a lot better then we did in our opening weekend. Seeing the ball go in the back of net, recording a shut out, and having
Hannah Klingerman recorded her first goal was important for us. In addition, Gabby (Mencotti) being so dangerous throughout the match was key for us."

The Lakers struck first when freshman
Gianna Parlove found senior
Gabriella Mencotti at the 31 minute mark of first period to net her second goal of the season and gave GVSU a 1-0 lead.

The scoring would continue a minute later for Grand Valley State, when as it was freshman to freshman for the team's second goal of the game.
Makenna Schoolman would cross a pass to
Hannah Klingerman and from there Klingerman would net the teams second goal in the 32
nd minute for a 2-0 lead.

Grand Valley State continued the offensive pressure in the second half with an additional 13 shots added to their 15 shots in the first. The defense locked down the Yellow Jackets allowing nine shots total for the game.
