INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The #5 regionally ranked Grand Valley State Laker women's tennis team lost in the NCAA Midwest Region Final to #1 regionally ranked Indianapolis. The Greyhounds were able to best the Lakers by a final score of 5-3. GVSU finishes their season with a 22-9 overall record and 9-2 record in GLIAC play.
In doubles play, the Lakers were able to nab two victories to take a 2-1 lead heading into singles play. The duo of
Alexa Sweeney and
Aimee Moccia played out of the No. 2 spot, where they took down Stephanie Hirsch and Selenay Heper by an 8-2 margin. Playing out of the No. 3 position was the Laker pairing of
Abby Perkins and
Livia Christman. The duo was able to best Bella Bergman and Mara Hofstetter by a score of 8-4.
Singles play turned out to be the turning point for the Greyhounds, as they won four out of the five matches (the sixth match went unfinished as Indy had already secured the victory). Earning the lone victory in singles for the Lakers was Christman, as she took down Hofstetter by a score of 6-3, 6-2.
