GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Grand Valley State women's tennis team finished their regular season with an 8-1 victory over future GLIAC member Davenport. With the victory, the Lakers finish their regular season with a 21-8 overall record and a 9-2 record in GLIAC play.
Getting things started in doubles play was the duo of
Madison Ballard and
Rachel Sumner as they defeated Puck Luttikhuis and Terin Everse by a score of 8-4 in No. 1 doubles. Out of the No. 2 spot was
Alexa Sweeney and
Aimee Moccia who took down the Panther duo of Steph Ritson and Adeline Nelson by an 8-6 margin. Finishing off the doubles sweep was
Livia Christman and
Abby Perkins who downed Bridget Barrett and Hannah Murphy in a tight 9-8 (7-5) victory.
Heading into singles play leading 3-0, the Lakers would only drop one singles match in way to their 8-1 victory. Out of the No. 2 singles spot was Sweeney who defeated Ritson by score of 6-4, 6-4.
Aimee Moccia played out of the No. 3 position and took down Nelson by a 6-3, 6-1 margin. Christman was able to win her matchup against Everse 6-3, 6-3 out of the No. 4 position. Also winning their singles matches were Sam Schrepferman (6-1, 6-3) and Sumner (6-1, 6-3).
The Lakers are currently ranked sixth in the Midwest Region as of April 5th with the top seven teams from each region advancing to the NCAA Regional tournament. More information about postseason play will be made available when NCAA Tournament seedings are announced.
