The 2017 Grand Valley State men's and women's swimming and diving teams are set to compete at the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships set for March 8-11 in Birmingham, Alabama. The NCAA and Birmingham will welcome over 250 teams and 1,000 student-athletes that will compete in five NCAA Championship sports in the 2017 winter festival.

Head coach Andy Boyce, who guided both the Laker men and women to the 2017 GLIAC titles, will lead twenty-two GVSU student-athletes to Birmingham to compete in the pool. The Grand Valley State women placed fifth in 2016, while the Laker men placed seventh at the 2016 NCAA Championships.

The GVSU women are led by senior Leonie VanNoort, a 2016 two-time National Champion and seven-time all-american . Van Noort, the first women's swimming National Champion for the Lakers, claimed titles in the 200 and 1650 free, while placing second in the 500 and 1,000 free a year ago. She added three all-america awards in relay events. Junior Sam Postmus is a returning five-time all-american that qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 200 IM, 400 IM, 500 free and 200 back. Freshman Melina Goebel hit the NCAA qualification mark in the 1650 free, 1000 free, 200 free and 200 butterfly, while Emily Gallagher, Meghan Falconer, Kathryn Culver and Mercedes Martinez all earned all-america honors last season in relay events. Megan Shaughnessy and Jenn Priebe will be competing in the NCAA Championships for the first time.

Kayla Marquardt is a returning four-time all-american in diving, while Erica Allor and Mikayla Karasek will be diving at the NCAA Championships for the first time.

Three divers that have a combined 10 all-america honors and an individual national championship the last two years will lead the way for the Lakers. Sophomore Brad Dalrymple claimed the 2016 National Chapionship on the 1-meter board, while placing sixth on the 3-meter board. Jared Gregory and Joe Gucwa have each all-america honors on both the 1 and 3-meter boards in each of the last two years.

Junior Gabriel Souza is a returning nine-time, all-america honoree that has placed third and ninth in the 100 fly each of the last two years. Sophomore Marius Mikalauskas placed ninth in the 200 breast a year ago and added a relay all-america award.
