LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The #43 ranked Lakers took down the Bellarmine Knights on Thursday night by a score of 7-2. The victory moves the Lakers to 17-6 on the season and will be looking for their 18th win on Friday (3/24) as they face off against the Screaming Eagles of Southern Indy.
The Lakers were able to grab two out of the three doubles matches to take an early 2-1 lead over the Knights. In the No. 2 spot for the Lakers was the duo of
Alexa Sweeney and
Aimee Moccia who took down Jennifer Skonieczny and Sydney Thompson in a very close 9-8 (7-4) match. The pair of
Abby Perkins and
Livia Christman won their matchup in the No. 3 doubles spot by a score of 8-5.
After the 2-1 lead the Lakers would win five out of the six singles matches to secure the 7-2 victory. Sophomore
Madison Ballard led the way in the No. 1 spot with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Maggie Wolworth. Winning by a score of 6-2, 6-4 was junior
Alexa Sweeney out of the No. 2 position. Following the winning trend was Moccia (6-1, 6-4), Perkins (6-3, 6-2), and Heiniger (3-6, 6-3, 10-1).
