GVSU Improves To 5-0 With Win Over Lake Superior State

The Grand Valley State women's tennis team (5-0, GLIAC) claimed a 8-1 GLIAC home win over Lake Superior State Saturday afternoon.

Grand Valley State swept Lake Superior State in doubles action to open the match. Alexa Sweeney and Aimee Moccia won an 8-3 decision at the No. 1 pairing, Madison Ballard and Nicole Heiniger played from the No. 2 doubles and tallied an 8-3 win. Abby Perkins and Livia Christman posted an 8-2 victory at No. 3 doubles. 

Grand Valley State took five of six points in singles action from Lake Superior State. LSSU claimed a win at the No. 1 position as Ballard fell in a tough 6-2, 6-4, 10-5 decision, but GVSU came back strong and won the next five singles matches. Sweeney won at No. 2 singles (6-4, 6-1), before Moccia played from the No. 3 spot and tallied a 6-1, 6-1 win. Perkins won at the No. 4 singles (6-1, 6-0) and Olivia Hanover and Heiniger won in straight sets at the No. 5 and No. 6 spots.

The Lakers hit the road next week for three GLIAC matchups against Tiffin on Friday (Oct. 13), Ashland on Saturday (Oct. 14), followed by Wayne State on Sunday (Oct. 15).
