The Grand Valley State women's tennis team (4-0, GLIAC) claimed a 7-2 GLIAC home victory over Michigan Tech Friday afternoon. The Lakers play Lake Superior State Saturday (Oct. 7) in a  2 p.m. start at the Grand Rapids Athletic Club in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Grand Valley State and the Michigan Tech first battled it out in doubles action to open the match. The Lakers started strong as Alexa Sweeney and Aimee Moccia won an 8-3 decision at the No. 1 pairing. The Huskies took the second match as Madison Ballard and Nicole Heiniger dropped a tough 9-7 decision from the No. 2 doubles, but GVSU's Abby Perkins and Livia Christman posted an 8-2 victory at No. 3 doubles. 

The Lakers took five of six points in singles action from the Huskies. MTU claimed a win at the No. 1 position as Ballard fell in a tough 6-2, 6-2 decision, but Grand Valley State came back strong and won the next five singles matches. Sweeney won at No. 2 singles (6-2, 6-1), before Moccia played from the No. 3 spot and tallied a 6-4, 7-5 win. Perkins won at the No. 4 singles (6-2, 6-1) and Heiniger won a difficult match from at the No. 5 spot, winning the first set 6-2, falling in the second 3-6, but coming back for a 6-3 win in the third set. Christman claimed a win from the No. 6 position (6-2, 6-2) to close out the match.
