The Series
Grand Valley State leads the all-time series by a 33-5 margin, including 28 straight wins. GVSU will be playing at Wayne State for the third consecutive year. The Lakers are 16-2 at Lubbers Stadium and 17-3 at Wayne State. The average margin of victory in the 28-game Laker winning streak is 35.5-12.2 and GVSU has scored 40 or more points nine times and held WSU to 10 points or less 11 times in the last 28 games. The Lakers claimed a 24-21 victory over the Warriors a year ago in Detroit. WSU's last win in the series was in 1984 (30-3). 

• Grand Valley State is in its 47th season of football and sports a 387-139-3 all-time record. GVSU's .735 winning percentage tops all of college football regardless of division in winning percentage. Michigan ranks second (.730) and Notre Dame third (.728).

• The Lakers are ranked 8th in this weeks AFCA Coaches' poll. GVSU, which opened the season ranked 2nd, has now been ranked in the AFCA preseason top three 12 times since 2002 (16 polls) and the top 10 14 times. The Lakers have been ranked in every AFCA top 25 preseason poll the last 16 years, including a ranking as the number one team in the AFCAweekl  poll an NCAA DII high 88 times since 2002. 

• The GVSU defense has yielded two TDs in the last 16 quarters of football.
• The Lakers lead the nation in passing yards allowed per game (78.8 ypg).
• GVSU's 7.4 points per game yielded ranks first in the GLIAC and third in DII.
• GVSU leads the GLIAC and ranks sixth in total defense, yielding 248.8 ypg.
• The Lakers lead the GLIAC and ranks 13th nationally in turnover margin (1.40 pg).
• GVSU leads the GLIAC and ranks second nationally in pass efficiency defense (72.2).
• Laker opponents have completed 43-of-96 passes for 393 yards and one TD in five games.
• Grand Valley State has won 16 consecutive GLIAC games that includes the last two games in 2015, all 10 in 2016 and four in 2017.

• GVSU tallied a season-high 13.0 tackles for loss (-68) and 6.0 QB sacks (-58)  vs. SVSU.

• Grand Valley State senior LB Garrett Pougnet was named the GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts vs. Saginaw Valley State. Pougnet tallied six tackles (4 solo/2 assisted), one QB sack (-8), one tackle for loss (-8), returned an interception 29 yards and returned a fumble 37 yards for a touchdown. Pougnet leads the team in tackles with 32 (15 solo/17 assisted), while also recording 3.0 TFL and 1.5 QB sacks. During his career Pougnet has recorded 219 tackles, 14.5 TFL, picked off six passes and recovered three fumbles. 
 
• Junior RB Marty Carter has rushed for 500 yards and four TDs on 70 carries this season. In addition, Carter is now fourth in all-time rushing yards with 3,297. The top three rushers of all time have come since 2002 with Reggie Spearmon (1999-2002) third at 3,467 yards, Michael Tennessee (2000-2004) second at 3,515 yards and James Berezik (2007-09) first with 3,630 yards. 

• Junior QB Bart Williams has completed 79-of-127 passes for 1,083  yards and 10 TDs this season. Williams, who is 28-5 all-time as a starter, has moved into third in all-time passing yards with 8,632, completing 555-of-940 passes. Williams is fourth all-time in passing TDs with 91 and he is also fifth in all-time total offense with 8,543 yards.

• Senior WR Brandon Bean became the 17th player in GVSU annals to move past the 100-catch mark in his career (104). Bean, who leads the Lakers with 32 catches for 375 yards in 2017, now has 104 catches for 1,652 yards and 15 TDs.

• Senior tight end Nick Keizer has caught 14 passes for 247 yards and five TDs this season. Keizer is averaging a nations-best 17.6 yards per catch for tight ends. 

• Senior LB Collin Schlosser appeared in his 41st game for the Lakers vs. SVSU. Schlosser, who has 29 total tackles in 2017, now has 239 career tackles.

• Senior LB Garrett Pougnet leads the team with 32 tackles, while also recording 3.0 TFL. Pougnet has 219 stops during his career with the Lakers.
