The Grand Valley State women's tennis advanced to the GLIAC Women's Tennis Tournament championship match after they defeated Tiffin, 5-2, in the tournament's semifinals match on Saturday evening. The Lakers will face Wayne State tomorrow morning at 8:15 a.m.

The Lakers and Dragons started the semifinal match with doubles, where GVSU won two out of three matches.
Alexa Sweeney and
Aimee Moccia claimed an 8-4 victory from No. 1 doubles, while
Abby Perkins and
Livia Christman tallied an 8-1 win from the No. 3 pairing. Tiffin's only point from doubles actions came after
Madison Ballard and
Nicole Heiniger fought hard, but fell in a 9-8 decision from the No. 2 doubles spot.

Grand Valley State entered singles play and were too much for Tiffin to make a comeback. Moccia started the Lakers off in singles, winning in straight sets (6-0, 6-0) from the No. 3 singles spot, before Ballard won 6-3, 6-2 from No. 1 singles. Tiffin's only point in singles came after
Livia Christman fell in a tough 6-2, 6-1 decision from the No. 6 singles position.

The Lakers came back and earned their fifth point of the contest after Perkins played a tough three set match at No. 4 singles. Perkins won the first set 6-4, before falling in the second set 4-6, but Perkins bounced back in the third set and won, 6-1, to end the semifinals match and give the Lakers the victory.

The Lakers are now seeking their second GLIAC Tennis Tournament title in program history. The last time GVSU won the GLIAC regular season and tournament title was back in 2010.
