Lakers Take Down Eagles In First Round Of GLIAC Tournament

The Grand Valley State women's tennis team defeated Ashland 5-0 in GLIAC Women's Tennis Tournament quarterfinals on Friday evening. The Lakers previously defeated Ashland 9-0 in the regular season.
 
Grand Valley State and the Ashland started the match off with doubles, as the Lakers were able to sweep the Eagles in doubles play. Alexa Sweeney and Aimee Moccia won an 8-2 decision from the No. 1 doubles positions, followed by another victory for the Lakers after Madison Ballard and Nicole Heiniger tallied an 8-3 win from the No. 2 doubles spot. The Lakers claimed another point after Abby Perkins and Livia Christman won 8-0 from the No. 3 pairing.
 
Grand Valley State continued to dominate, as Perkins won 6-1, 6-2 from No. 2 singles, before Heiniger claimed the Lakers fifth point to end the match winning 6-2, 6-0 from the No. 5 position.
 
The second round of the tournament will start tomorrow at 3:45 p.m., with the Lakers facing off against Tiffin who won their opening round match against Saginaw Valley State.
