The Grand Valley State women's tennis team won it sixth consecutive match and improves to 6-0 on the season, after a thrilling 5-4 victory over Tiffin on Friday. The Lakers continue their GLIAC road trip as they face Ashland on Saturday (Oct.14) for a 10 a.m. start.
The Lakers and Dragons first battled it out in doubles action to open the match. GVSU started strong as Alexa Sweeney and Aimee Moccia won an 8-4 decision at the No. 1 pairing. Tiffin took the second match as Madison Ballard and Nicole Heiniger dropped a tough 9-7 decision from the No. 2 doubles, but GVSU's Abby Perkins and Livia Christman posted an 8-4 victory at the No. 3 pairing.
Grand Valley State and Tiffin went back and forth and split the six singles matches. The Dragons claimed the first two matches, as Ballard fell in a tough 7-6, 6-4 decision at the No. 1 position, while Sweeney battled hard at the No. 2 spot before falling 7-5, 7-6. Moccia won at the No. 3 position by a 6-3, 6-1 score, before Perkins won 6-3, 6-4 at the No. 4 position. Tiffin tallied another win at the No. 5 position, as Olivia Hanover dropped in a tough 6-2, 7-6 decision. Heiniger gave GVSU its third singles victory after a 6-2, 6-1 win from the No. 6 spot.
