MIDLAND, Mich. – The Grand Valley State women's tennis team suffered their first loss of the season Sunday, when they fell to Northwood 5-4 on the road.
Doubles would prove to be the difference-maker in the dual match between the GLIAC foes as Northwood was able to snatch two victories in doubles. The teams split singles matches, winning 3 matches apiece.

In doubles, GVSU's lone win came in the No. 3 spot, as the Laker duo of
Abby Perkins and
Livia Christman defeated Olesia Riabchuk and Tetyana Pavych of Northwood 8-4.

In No. 1 singles,
Madison Ballard was able to get back on the winning track on Sunday with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Carol Arnez-Mercado after losing her first singles match of the year on Saturday at Saginaw Valley State. GVSU was able to grab a win in the No. 3 singles spot, as Perkins took down Riabchuk in 7-5, 7-6.
Nicole Heiniger would take the third win in singles for the Laker women at No. 6 singles with a 6-2, 6-2 performance.
