#9 Lakers Rout Walsh in 21-1 Win

CANTON, Ohio – Twelve Lakers scored at least one goal in Friday's game as #9 Grand Valley State rolled to a 21-1 victory over Walsh in GLIAC action at Vasco Field. The win, the team's fifth straight and head coach Alicia Groveston's 70th win of her coaching career, gives GVSU a 7-3 overall record and 5-0 mark against conference opponents as the Lakers begin six consecutive games on the road.

Ryan Skomial and Chelsey Bishop led the team with five points apiece. Skomial tallied four goals and an assist in the blowout win, while Bishop dished out five assists, giving her 25 assists on the year and placing her fourth for the most assists in a single season in school history. Erika Neumen scored three goals and made one assist for four points, while Kira Dosenberry scored a hat-trick over the Cavaliers (3-7, 0-7 GLIAC).

Carlyn Shisler scored one goal in the game and led the team with three draw controls, while Kelly Leibovitz led the team with four ground balls while causing two turnovers. Caitlin Wojichowski led all players in today's game with four caused turnovers while scoring the second goal of her career.

Sarah Zwilsky and Brianna DeMilia combined for the one-goal day. Zwilsky played the first half and kept the Cavaliers scoreless while making two saves, and DeMilia manned the pipes for the second half and made three saves.

Bishop assisted on the first three goals of the contest by Neumen and Skomial to give GV a three-goal lead inside the first two minutes of the contest. Dosenberry was the next to score through an unassisted attempt, followed by Shisler from Carolyn Kraus and Dosenberry's second goal of the contest to make it 6-0 with 22:17 still to go in the game.

Bishop recorded two more assists on scores by Meggan Loyd and Neumen, while Neumen tallied her first assist of the season on a goal by Kelley Fitzgerald to make it 10-0. Livvy Mickevicius and Maria D'Angelo both scored their first goals of the season, and Skomial closed out the first half with the second free-position goal of the half to make it 13-0.

Wojichowski's unassisted strike at 26:51 opened the scoring for Grand Valley State before Neumen and Katie Tomlinson scored free-position goals to make it a 16-0 scoreline. Mickevicius assisted on Loyd's second goal of the afternoon, before Skomail tickled the twine and Carolina Reis scored her first collegiate goal with 7:17 to go, giving GV a commanding 19-goal lead.

Walsh managed to sneak one past DeMilia to deny the team their first shutout since April 2, 2015, but Reis buried a shot off a pass by Elizabeth Grisko, and an unassisted Danielle Tunnell goal put the game to an end.

Grand Valley State limited Walsh to just 10 shots while taking 36 themselves. The Lakers also picked up 28 ground balls to Walsh's 12, won 13 draws to their opponent's nine, and committed just 16 turnovers while forcing Walsh into committing 23 of their 29 turnovers.

Lake Erie (4-6, 2-4 GLIAC) is next on the docket for Grand Valley State. The Lakers and Storm square off on Saturday (Apr. 9) at 2 pm, in an attempt to avoid predicted inclement weather.
