TIFFIN, Ohio – Grand Valley State fought and battled all afternoon, but the ninth-ranked Lakers fell in a 16-15 overtime loss to Tiffin at Frost-Kalnow Stadium. The loss snaps the Lakers' six-game winning streak, and puts their record at 8-4 overall and 6-1 in the GLIAC.
Meghan Datema and

Danielle Tunnell had a four-goal afternoon, and
Erika Neumen,
Ashley Bailey and
Kira Dosenberry had the remaining three goals.
Skomial also led the team with seven draw control wins and tied for the team lead in ground balls with Datema and
Sarah Zwilsky with three. Datema and Dosenberry caused both turnovers today.
Brianna DeMilia was given the overtime loss after giving up four goals in 18:09 in the net, including the game-winner for Tiffin. Zwilsky started the game and made six saves in 42:56 of action.
Skomial scored the game's first goal 34 seconds into the game, but Tiffin tied it up four minutes later. A goal by Bailey and an extra-player strike from Neumen put GV ahead by two before the Dragons knotted it back up with two straight goals just 23 seconds apart.
Tiffin countered a Datema tally with a five-goal run that lasted over six minutes and put the hosts ahead 8-4. Dosenberry's goal in a player-advantage opportunity stemmed the Tiffin run and was followed by goals from Skomial and Tunnell to bring GV to within one with 6:30 left in the half. The conference rivals traded goals to end the first half, with Tiffin scoring at 5:03 and Grand Valley State at 3:52, and the score was 9-8 in favor of the home team at halftime.
Tiffin scored the first four goals of the second half, including one goal in a player-down opportunity, to go ahead by five with plenty of time to play. Grand Valley State answered back swiftly with four unanswered goals of their own, with three coming with a player advantage. Back-to-back Tunnell tallies were followed by one from Datema and one by Skomial to put the Lakers within one.
Two goals from Datema and one from Tunnell helped put Grand Valley State ahead for the first time since 20:23, but the late lead wouldn't last as Tiffin scored the tying goal with 2:15 on the clock. The Dragons had an opportunity to win the game in regulation, but they squandered the free-position attempt to bring the Lakers into their first overtime game since 2013.
Tiffin won the opening draw of overtime and moved the ball into position where they snuck it past DeMilia and secured their first win over the Lakers in 10 tries.
Grand Valley State outshot Tiffin 34-27, won 17 draw controls to Tiffin's 16, and earned 13 free-position opportunities to Tiffin's 12. Unfortunately, they lost the turnover battle (17-10) and picked up three fewer ground balls (16-13).
Grand Valley State will look to shake off the loss when they travel to Indiana on Friday (Apr. 22) to take on Indianapolis (6-7, 4-4 GLIAC) at 6 pm. The teams previously met on March 26 at GVSU Lacrosse Stadium, where the Lakers cruised to a 15-4 win over the Greyhounds.
