Box Score The 2016 Grand Valley State football campaign came to an end Saturday afternoon at Lubbers Stadium with its 47-32 loss to Ferris State. The Lakers close the season with a 12-1 record.
Ferris State opened the scoring with a safety midway through the first quarter when the snap from the long snapper sailed over the punters head and through the endzone. The Bulldogs upped their lead to 9-0 with a 9-yard scramble by QB Reggie Bell and took a 12-0 lead with a 25-yard field goal.
GVSU got on the board with a 37-yard field goal by senior PK

Marty Carter pulled the Lakers within two with a 48-yard sprint to the endzone and Schipper added the PAT for a 12-10 score with 3:12 left in the first half.
Grand Valley State took a 17-12 lead with a 5-play, 72-yard scoring drive that took 1:59 off the clock. Sophomore QB

Nick Dodson with 42 yard reception, then connected with Dodson with a 13-yard scoring pass and following the PAT from Schipper GVSU led 17-12.
Ferris State scored on back-to-back drives to take a 26-14 lead before Williams engineered a 9-play, 72-yard drive. Williams hit Dodson with a 25-yard completion and then connected with junior WR
Urston Smith for a 12-yard TD pass to pull the Lakers within two (26-24).
The Bulldogs added a touchdown late in the third quarter and midway through the fourth to take a 40-24 lead.
GVSU scored quickly in the closing minutes with a 7-polay, 70-yard drive that took just 45 seconds off the clock. B. Williams connected with senior WR
Matt Williams four times for 50 yards, then hit Dodson with a 20-yard TD pass. The two-point conversion pass was good to Williams to pull GVSU within eight (40-32). FSU returned the onside kick 56 yards for a TD and the final margin.
Carter toted the ball 18 times for 101 yards and a TD, while
Bart Williams completed 23-of-40 passes for 310 yards. Dodson hauled in a career-high 11 passes for a career-high 162 yards and two TDs. Senior LB
