BIG RAPIDS, Mich. - The Grand Valley State women's tennis team won their regular season finale against the Bulldogs of Ferris State by a score of 8-1. The win puts the Lakers at 9-2 heading into the GLIAC tournament while the Bulldogs fall to 7-4.
The Lakers came out on top in five of the six singles matches with the only loss coming at the No. 3 position and were able to win all three doubles draws. In singles play,
Madison Ballard took on Teodora Stefanovic in the No. 1 position and came out with a hard fought 4-6, 6-4, 14-12 victory. In No. 2 singles
Alexa Sweeney faced Nika Hein and also came out with another hard fought three set victory (6-1, 2-6, 6-4). Grand Valley also saw wins from
Aimee Moccia (6-2, 7-5),
Livia Christman (6-3, 6-2), and
Nicole Heiniger (6-2, 6-4) in singles play.Â
Leading the way for the Lakers sweep in doubles play was the duo of Ballard and
Rachel Sumner. The pair won the matchup against Stefanovic and Hein by a score of 8-6. In No. 2 doubles, the duo of Moccia and Sweeney was able to roll to an 8-0 victory over Amiena Houston and Nicole Meylor. Clenching the sweep for the Lakers was
Abby Perkins and Christman in the No. 3 position as they took down Sydney Berens and Arien Kissinger by a score of 8-1.
The Lakers will take the next eight days off as they prepare for the GLIAC Tournament which will be held Friday, Oct. 28 thru Sunday, Oct. 30. The sites have not yet be determined.Â
