GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Grand Valley State women's tennis team improved to 8-2 on the season after and impressive 9-0 win over Ashland (0-10) Sunday morning.
Leading the way for the Lakers was Sophomore
Madison Ballard in the No. 1 singles position where she earned a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Meghann Fitzpatrick. Junior
Alexa Sweeney stayed in her winning ways on Sunday by defeating Brianna Brdicka 6-1, 6-1 to go undefeated over the weekend. Also winning their matches were
Livia Christman in No. 3 singles (6-3, 6-0),
Nicole Heiniger in No. 4 singles (6-0, 6-0),
Sam Schrepferman in No. 5 singles (6-0, 6-0), and
Calla Ramont in the No. 6 singles position (6-0, 6-3).
For GVSU, doubles competition was more of the same as the Lakers were able to win all three matchups handily. The duo of Ballard and
Rachel Sumner won the No. 1 doubles match with a score of 8-0 over Fitzpatrick and Kaitlin Snider. In the No. 2 doubles position, the pair of
Aimee Moccia and Sweeney were able to take down Brdicka and Allison Brooks by a score of 8 to 1. Finally, the duo of
Abby Perkins and Christman took their match, also winning 8-1.
The Lakers will take a few days off before heading to Big Rapids to take on the Bulldogs of Ferris State in the regular season finale on Wednesday, Oct. 19.
