Allendale, Mich.—The Grand Valley women's basketball team got off to a hot start against Wayne State on Saturday and never looked back, cruising to a 74-39 win at GVSU Fieldhouse Arena in Allendale, Michigan.
Bailey Cairnduff led the way for the Lakers with 18 points, who shot 40 percent from the field and used strong defense to limit the Warriors on offense.

The Lakers scored the first points of the game on the way to hitting four of their first five shots for an early 11-3 lead, and would not give up the lead for the rest of the game, building a large lead as the game went on. Grand Valley capitalized on sloppy ball control by the Warriors, getting 15 points off those turnovers in the first half alone.

Building off a hot start, the Lakers got timely three pointers when they needed them, three from
Bailey Cairnduff alone. Her three ball with just under two minutes left in the first quarter got the Lakers on top 17-10 and forced a Warriors timeout. Cairnduff struck again just before the end of the first, turning a Warrior turnover into three points and giving the Lakers a 20-12 edge at the end of the 1
st quarter. For the game, the Lakers would connect on 8 of 30 tries from beyond the arc.

In the second quarter, the Lakers continued to add to the lead. Cairnduff opened the lead to 17 points with just under three minutes left in the second quarter. After the Warriors answered with a bucket,
Korynn Hincka added a layup to get the lead back to 17. Grand Valley would close out the remaining time in the half with a 6-0 run and take a 42-21 lead into halftime.

Coming out of the break, the Lakers continued to score with ease. A
Kayla Dawson jumper got the lead into the 20's with seven minutes left in the third quarter/ A minute later Dawson added a three, and a minute after that
Taylor Parmley added a layup to get the Laker lead to 27. After a
Lindsay Baker three and a Dawson layup, the Warriors added three points to end the third quarter, with the Laker lead at 60-32.

More of the same followed in the 4
th quarter, as the Lakers edged the Warriors in scoring 14-7 for the quarter. Â The Lakers held the Warriors to just 25 percent shooting from the field and forced them into 17 turnovers as they held Wayne State below 40 points.

Joining Cairnduff in double figures for the game were
Kayla Dawson (16 points) and
Piper Tucker (13 points). The Lakers won the rebounding battle, 48-37, led by
Taylor Parmley's nine boards.

Grand Valley moves to 8-3 overall and 3-2 in the GLIAC ahead of a showdown with 9-1 Findlay on Sunday. Tip off is set for 1 p.m. at GVSU Fieldhouse Arena.
