GVSU Posts 8-1 Victory Over Lake Superior State

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Grand Valley State women's tennis wrapped up its opening weekend upstate with an 8-1 victory over Lake Superior State at the Arbuckle Student Activity Center. The win gives GVSU their second overall and conference win of the season, while LSSU recorded their second loss.
 
Grand Valley State, who opened up on Saturday with an 8-1 win over Michigan Tech, went 2-1 in doubles play and 6-0 in singles action against their foe. Alexa Sweeney/Madison Ballard won 8-6 in the first doubles position while Abby Perkins/Livia Christman pulled off an 8-4 win from the No. 3 position.
 
GVSU swept singles action for the second consecutive match. Perkins was the only player to need a tiebreaker set (3-6, 7-5, 6-4), while all other players won in straight sets.
 
The Lakers will host their first home match of the season when they host rival Saginaw Valley State on Saturday (Sept. 12) at 2 p.m. at the GVSU Tennis Courts.
