Results vs. Florida SouthernResults vs. Montana State-BillingsORLANDO - On the first day of a week-long trip to Florida, Grand Valley State won both games on Sunday, besting #45 Florida Southern, 6-3, before pitching a 9-0 shutout against Montana State-Billings at the Lake Cane Tennis Center in Orlando.
Grand Valley State, ranked 39th in the latest ITA Division II national rankings, move to 15-3 with both wins, while #45 Florida Southern dropped to 1-3 and Montana State-Billings to 0-6.
Against the Moccasins, GVSU went 2-1 in doubles action, with

Alexa Sweeney winning a tight 9-8 match in the No. 2 spot and

Morgan Patterson blanking their opponents in the No. 3 spot to win 8-0.
Over on the singles side, the Mocs picked up the first two wins to jump out to a 3-2 lead. But Orna came through in the No. 3 singles spot with a 6-4, 6-3 victory to tie the match at three games each. The win improved her singles record to 17-2 on the season. GVSU would go on to win the next three matches with ease to take the contest in favor of the Lakers.
Aimee Moccia in particular won with ease, shutting out her opponent in both sets from the No. 5 spot.
Later in the day, the Lakers squared off the with the Yellow Jackets and won each match in a 9-0 shutout.

Kali Phillips improved their doubles record to 11-7 in the No. 1 spot, while Orna/Sweeney moved to 17-4 on the year and Moccia/Patterson to 18-4 for the season. In singles,
Abby Perkins in the No. 1 spot was the only Laker to need a tiebreaker set to win her match (4-6, 6-1, 10-5).
Grand Valley State has little time to rest as they hit the courts tomorrow at noon against College of Saint Benedict at the Sanlando Tennis Center in Orlando.
