GVSU Sweeps Northwestern (Ohio)

Allendale, Mich. - The Grand Valley State women's tennis team was dominant in their first match of the spring season, keeping Northwestern (Ohio) off the scoreboard en route to a 9-0 win on Sunday (Feb. 22) at the Ramblewood Tennis & Health Club in Grandville. The win improves GVSU's record to 13-3 on the season.

All but one match was won by the Lakers in straight sets. Aimee Moccia, in the #4 singles spot, battle back from a first set 4-6 defeat to win the second set, 6-2. The match went to a tiebreaker, where the freshman won in a convincing 10-4 set. In doubles play, the teams of Carola Orna/Alexa Sweeney and Moccia/Morgan Patterson both improved their records to 16-4 on the season with victories over their opposition.

Grand Valley State now prepares for their spring break trip to Florida. The Lakers will begin their trip with a match on March 1 against Florida Southern at the Lake Cane Tennis Center in Orlando.
